Baking Spiral Hams, Heating Spiral Hams
Answers some of the most common questions of how to bake spiral hams, how to cook fully cooked spiral hams, how long to cook spiral hams and best way to cook spiral hams, as well as a general guide on other types of ham.
Glazed Spiral Hams from pams-hams I wouldn’t! The glazed spiral hams from pams-hams are best not heated. I take mine out of the refrigerator about an hour before serving. It really dries out the ham if you heat it. Remember, there is no extra water in a product labeled “ham” instead of “ham with natural juices” or “ham with water added”. If you must heat it (knowing that it will be dryer and that the glaze will melt), bake at 275 for about 10 minutes per pound.
Smoked Turkey Breast from pams-hamsStill wouldn’t recommend it but not as fervently as I would recommend not heating the ham. At least there is no glaze to melt on our turkey breast. Again, bake at 275 for about 10 minutes per pound.
Other Ham and Other Spiral Hams Baking Instructions
The answer for ham other than pams-hams is best found on your packaging but generally heat it for a long period of time at a low heat like 325. Also be sure it is
completely thawed first or double the amount of time for cooking.
The length of time for reheating (a fully cooked ham) will vary by the size so just try to cook until ham is 140 degrees. Approximate cook time at about 325 is as follows:
whole spiral hams (about 12 lbs.) 4 hours
half spiral hams(about 6 lbs.) 3 hours
half semi-boneless ham (about 5 lbs.) 2 1/2 hours
3-4 lb. boneless ham 2 hours
1 1/2 lb. canned ham 1 hour
Naturally we prefer the glazed spiral hams around here because they don't need to be cooked making them the simplest choice for brunch or other occasions that are special. Should you choose to go that route next time, check us out at
